AI discoverability

AI citations begin with crawlable, attributable evidence

There is no separate technical doorway into AI search. A page first needs to be discoverable, understandable, useful, and eligible to appear with a snippet.

Why conventional search foundations still matter when teams want their expertise to appear in AI-assisted discovery.

01

Start with the same search foundation

Google states that its existing SEO guidance remains relevant for AI features and that there are no additional technical requirements. That directs effort toward crawl access, indexable pages, useful text, clear internal links, and a page experience that lets people complete the task they arrived with.

02

Preserve snippet eligibility

A supporting link in an AI result must first be indexed and eligible to appear in Search with a snippet. Teams should review noindex and snippet controls, CDN rules, rendering failures, canonical choices, and accidental blocks before inventing an AI-specific optimization layer.

03

Shape evidence for verification

Useful evidence has a named owner, a publication context, and a path back to the primary material. Definitions should be precise; comparisons should state their criteria; recommendations should make assumptions visible. These practices improve the page for readers even when no AI feature surfaces it.

04

Measure discovery as a portfolio

AI-feature traffic is included within Search Console’s web reporting rather than exposed as a guaranteed standalone channel. Monitor landing-page discovery, qualified engagement, assisted conversions, and branded demand together. A citation is valuable when it brings the right person into a useful next step, not merely when it appears.
